On August 25, 2011, Trina Solar (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. held a groundbreaking ceremony in Shanghai Zizhu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone. Cheng Xiangmin, deputy goveror of Minhang District, Gao Jifan, Chairman and CEO of Trina Solar, Luo Shanying and Chen Heng , vice general manager of Zizhu and other relevant leaders attended the ceremony.

The project is the designing and service center of Trina Solar gloabal system services, undertaking technology R&D of systems engineering. As an important part of the global innovation platform in the future, Trina Solar (Shanghai) R&D Center will engage in the R&D of solar photovoltaic components and systems engineering.

The project consists of Photovoltaic R&D building, systems R&D building, administration building and comprehensive building. Under the guidance of "green technology", the designing and construction of the buildings will use energy saving materials to construct buildings integrated with photovoltaic systems.

“Shanghai is the world's important commercial center, logistics center and financial center. Trina Solar sets up its R&D center in Shanghai to build a leading R&D platform of solar energy systems technology.” Gao Jifan said at the ceremony.

Cheng Xiangmin remarked, “ Trina's concept is in line with the strategic industries development ideas of Shanghai advocated by Yu Zhengsheng, secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party committee. Trina Solar (Shanghai) R&D Center in Zizhu is very close to the world's top 500 enterprises and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This is very beneficial to Trina’s development in the future. Minhang district government will offer full support for the project“.
