The construction of Minhang Branch of Ruijin Hospital affiliated to the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University officially began on May 18, 2025. Minhang District welcomed another "Grade A Tertiary Hospital". Ruijin Hospital's Minhang Branch is located in the big neoBay area, with the goal of becoming a leading demonstration research-oriented hospital in the world.

Its arrival will optimize the layout of the regional medical structure and accelerate the transformation of innovative research achievements in bio-medicine by integrating into the world-class "Science and Technology Innovation Area" of the neoBay area. The goal is to build it into a leading demonstration research-oriented hospital in the world.

The Ruijin Hospital Minhang Branch Project Base is located in Unit 04A-13A, MHC11102 of the Science and Technology Innovation Source Area of the big neoBay in Minhang. It is adjacent to Zilong Road to the north, Zifeng Road to the south, old jiangjiagang to the west, and Longwu Road to the east. The total construction area is about 127000 square meters, with a land area of 55546 square meters (including 83375 square meters above ground and 43975 square meters underground) and a building height of 81.1 meters. The medical complex includes an outpatient service and emergency center, a medical comprehensive building, and a clinical research building, with a total of 500 beds.

After the hospital is built, it will be included in the unified management of Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Center municipal hospital system. As a non independent legal entity Branch of Ruijin Hospital affiliated to the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, it is shares integrated management and operation with Ruijin Hospital.

The "Healthy Shanghai 2030" Plan Outline proposes to build Shanghai into a globally influential center for health technology innovation and a model for a global healthy city by 2030. In response to the construction of "neoBay area" in Shanghai, Ruijin Hospital, as a high-level large-scale public hospital with a hundred years of heritage,  has joined hands with Minhang District Government, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Zizhu High-Tech Park under the background of high-quality development in the 14th Five Year Plan. Adhering to the construction vision of "openness and integration, facing the future" and relying on the industrial and scientific resources advantages of the "big neoBay area", the hospital takes the future hospital form as the guide and focuses on medical device research and development as the core. Focusing on the positioning of high-level talent medical needs, high-level clinical medical research and bio-pharmaceutical scientific research transformation, the hospital will be built into a high-level research-oriented hospital that integrates industry and education, medical treatment and industry, achievement transformation and industrial complementarity with medical device research and development innovation as the core.

Ning Guang, president of Ruijin Hospital and academician of the CAE Member, imagines that Minhang Branch will form a beautiful new scene of "future medicine": "harmony between human and nature, dialogue between science, technology and life, integration of medicine and health, coexistence of technology and disease".

He stated that the Minhang Branch of Ruijin Hospital is a new practice of the future hospital with a "life complex and health reception room". After completion, the Minhang Branch will shoulder three major historical missions: forging the "health center" of big neoBay area, building a "Chinese model" for interdisciplinary research and constructing a "clinical booster" for bio-medicine industry.

Jiang Fan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, stated that the Minhang Branch of Ruijin Hospital is an important project to deliver the School of Medicine brand and Ruijin quality to the health and wellness undertakings in the outskirts of Shanghai. As a solid support, the School of Medicine will fully support the construction of Minhang Branch and the high-quality development of Ruijin Hospital. He believes that Minhang Branch will definitely help build Ruijin Hospital into a "first-class demonstration hospital in Asia" and help build a world-class school and a first-class medical discipline, laying a solid foundation for the construction of Healthy China, Healthy Shanghai and building "Big neoBay" into one of the world-class "science and technology innovation areas".

Wu Qiang, Deputy Party Secretary of Minhang District and Acting Governor delivered a speech, saying that Minhang District has always regarded the introduction of high-level medical resources as an important measure to ensure and improve people's livelihoods. Ruijin Hospital has achieved significant achievements in medical teaching and research. The introduction of this project into Minhang will effectively optimize the layout of medical resources in Minhang area, becoming a new business card in the southern part of Minhang. He hopes to take this as a basis to promote further integration of advantageous resources, deepen collaborative cooperation, and jointly create a highland for the medical device industry, injecting new impetus into the economic and social development of Minhang region.

Ding Kuiling, president of Shanghai Jiaotong University and the CAS Member, said that building a high-level research hospital around Shanghai Jiao Tong University Minhang Branch has been the expectation of Jiaotong University people for many years. Shanghai Jiaotong University will always firmly support the construction of Ruijin Hospital Minhang Branch, and take this opportunity to carry out collaborative innovation of "industry, education, research and medicine", so as to inject strong power into building a globally influential science and innovation area and talent highland.

The 'Rui Surgery' plan was released simultaneously. On site, 5G remote ultrasound enables doctors to operate robotic arms thousands of miles away, perform real-time ultrasound scans for patients and provide diagnostic opinions, effectively solving the problems of insufficient ultrasound doctors' resources and overloaded work, and achieving the sinking of high-quality medical resources and the landing of remote medical care.

On April 22nd, experts from Ruijin Hospital was connected to five hospitals in Sanming, Fujian; Diqing, Yunnan; Ruijin, Jiangxi; Boao, Hainan and Jiading, Shanghai through two "main control machines" placed in the hospital auditorium. They remotely performed six difficult surgeries including pancreatic, hepatobiliary, urinary and gastrointestinal surgeries, radiating the concept of "RUI Surgery" and the high-quality medical resources of public hospitals to a wider area.

A domestic innovative medical device exhibition was also held on the day of the ceremony. The innovative equipment showcased on site, including the Aipuqiang proton therapy system model, Shurui robot, minimally invasive robot, rehabilitation exoskeleton robot, 5G remote ultrasound, non-invasive blood glucose meter, 3D printing and Aohua Endoscope Neusoft model, attracted much attention. Adhering to the concept of "bringing factories into hospitals", Ruijin Hospital continuously promotes the research and development of domestic medical devices through the integration of hospitals and enterprises, as well as the intersection of medical treatment and industry.
