On April 20th, 2005, the state council has approved to set up Shanghai Powerchip Integration Manufacturing Corporation in Zizhu. The total investment is one billion USD with registered capital of 334 million USD. This the biggest IC corporation the state council has ever approved this year, and also the biggest investment Zizhu park has attracted. This is an important breakthrough of Zizhu park’s marketing activities.

Shanghai Powerchip Integration Manufacturing Corporation is a solely foreign-invested by BCD Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. The company is going to establish a research center concentrating on power, simulation and digital simulation mixed-model IC production, and a complete production line. The monthly production capability will be 60,000 simulation and digital simulation mixed model chip of 8 inches, 0.25 um and one billion (SOP8) wire bouding. It will research on and manufacture simulation and digital simulation mixed model, power management and drive, power-related component etc. The typical production will be power management circuit, power supply controlling circuit, engineer driving circuit, and contact maker.

Shanghai Powerchip Integration Manufacturing Corporation deals works in IC business and its production 8 inches 0.25 um IC meets the preference of national strategy and is encouraged by the national high tech industrial index and national foreign investment policy. In 2003, the business scale of semiconductor has reached 170 billion USD and the domestic market has reached 2000 billion RMB. However,, the domestic IC only occupied less than 10% of the market, and only 2-3 % of the world market. We have to import a lot IC to meet the domestic need. Therefore, this project has a promising future. What’s more, BCD has one 6 inches anolog chip fabrication and is very familiar with the market and investment environment. It has strong technical resource. It is estimated the annual sales will be over 1.2 billion USD with average profit over 260 million USD.

By sticking to the strategy of “ prosper the city by science and education” and “ two priority development”, Zizhu has successfully attracted this important project. It will play an important role in Zizhu’s progress towards a strategic industrial base in Shanghai even national wide.
